Yttrium can be used as additive in magnesium alloys. But yttrium metal high chemical activity, easy oxidation, use, storage and transportation is very inconvenient, high cost, and melting point is too high, heavy, not easy to join magnesium. Therefore, the production of Mg-Y intermediate alloy can not only reduce the oxidation burn loss, reduce the cost, but also convenient storage and transportation, simple operation, no pollution, stable composition, reliable quality.

Study on microstructure and properties of MG-yttrium alloy after solution treatment.
Mg-Y alloy was prepared by casting method and treated by solid solution. The microstructure of the alloy was studied by metallographic microscope. The results show that the optimum solution process of the alloy is 525ºC for 8 h.

New aerospace material - magnesium yttrium alloy
Yttrium is one of the rare earth elements. It has a dense hexagonal lattice at room temperature, and changes into a body centered cubic lattice at high temperature. The specific gravity of yttrium is 4.457 g/cm ~3, adding yttrium to magnesium, the increase of magnesium specific gravity, is not very significant. Mg-yttrium alloy has a low specific gravity (no more than 1.9g/cm ~3), high strength, almost with Al -- 4.3%Cu -- 0.6%Mg -- 0.6%Mn alloy, namely the Chinese brand of LY_(11)
The invention discloses an extruded magnesia yttrium alloy and a preparation method thereof, including the following steps :(1) The raw magnesium and yttrium are melted in a protective gas atmosphere to obtain a casting billet with yttrium content of 6.5311.4% by weight; (2) The billet was homogenized at 400500ºC for 2h to obtain the homogenized billet; (3) The billet is extruded to obtain the extruded magnesia yttrium alloy. The invention has the following advantages: by controlling a high degree of prehomogenization and appropriate yttrium content, the extrusion state MFG. Yttrium alloy can be prepared in a short time, effectively reducing the energy loss in the preparation process and improving the preparation efficiency, and the performance of the prepared extrusion state MFG. Yttrium alloy has no obvious difference compared with the traditional process (longer time homogenization). In addition, the present invention verifies the influence of the dissolution of yttrium element and the generation of a large amount of matrix texture on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of extruded magnesium yttrium alloy under the premise of short time homogenization through experiments.
