ASTM A350 LF2 grade is a general-purpose carbon steel typically supplied in normalizing, normalizing and tempering or quenched and tempered states.
It is typically characterized by moderate strength and impact toughness, and is widely used in the manufacture of flanges and fittings, as well as applications requiring low temperature service, where corrosion resistance is not important.
forge
The forging temperature of the material should be 900-1200oC
Soaking time should be kept to a minimum to avoid large amounts of scaling, but sufficient time should be allowed for the center to reach furnace temperature.
After forging, the parts should be cooled in still air.
Typical chemical composition
carbon 0.30%
Silicon 0.15-0.30%
Manganese 0.60-1.35%
phosphorus 0.035%
sulfur 0.040%
chromium 0.30%
molybdenum 0.12%
copper 0.40%
niobium 0.02%
vanadium 0.08%
Heat treatment
Normalizing - heating to 860-920 °C for a time commensurate with the ruling section, air cooling (if required)
Hardening - heating to 890-960oC for a time commensurate with the ruling part and quenching in water.
Tempering - reheating to a minimum of 590oC as needed, depending on the final desired performance. Keep it for a time commensurate with the ruling section and cool it in the air process
