Chromium is a silvery shiny metal. Pure chromium is malleable. Impurities are hard and brittle. Density 7.20g/cm3. Soluble in strong alkali solution. Chromium is highly resistant to corrosion and oxidizes very slowly in air, even in a state of red heat. Insoluble in water. Plating on metal provides protection.
