The 5454 grade aluminum was developed for use in the manufacture of aluminum sheets into tank/dry bulk trailers and dump bodies. Qualities include high strength, excellent weldability, formability, and corrosion resistance.
This aluminum metal is rated lower for machine applications, as it needs oil lubricants. Magnesium is the main alloy element in the 5454 grade aluminum.
5454 is a non-heat treatable alloy of aluminum and magnesium. It is a moderate strength alloy that may be hardened (strengthened) by cold working.
Aluminum alloys contain strong corrosion resistance. These alloys are good low-temperature alloys. Aluminium / Aluminum alloys are sensitive to high temperatures ranging between 200 and 250°C (392 and 482°F). The strength of these alloys increases when exposed to subzero temperatures and the strength decreases when exposed to high temperatures.
[aluminium alloy A95454 sheet or plate] Application:
This alloy is primarily used in areas where good formability is required and in the manufacture of high strength welded structures, pressure vessels, marine applications, and in storage tanks.
Aluminum 5454 alloy is used in pressure vessels, marine service and welded structures.

Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy is annealed at 343°C (650°F) only when the need to relieve the cold working stress arises. After being sufficiently heated the alloy is finally cooled in air.
Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy is capable of being cold worked by using conventional methods. This alloy can be cold worked in any of the H-32, H-34, H-111 tempers or in the annealed condition.
Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy is capable of being welded by all the commercial welding methods.
Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy can be hot forged.
Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy can be readily cold worked in the annealed or tempered conditions. This alloy contains good cold working and hot working characteristics.
The machinability of Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy is rated from fair to poor. Machining operations for this alloy is recommended when the alloy is in the H-34 temper condition. Oil lubricants can be used in the machining process.
Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy cannot be heat treated.
Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy can be hot worked in the temperature range of 371 to 204°C (700 to 400°F).
Aluminium / Aluminum 5454 alloy can be hardened only by being cold worked.
