Physical properties (average values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103xN/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 7.80
Soft annealing
Heat to 720-760ºC, cool slowly in furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 207.
Normalizing
Temperature: 860-890ºC.
Stress relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to 600-650ºC, holding for 1 hour at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 790-820ºC, 820-850ºC followed by oil or water quenching or warm bath approx. 400ºC. Hardness after quenching is approx. 65 HRC.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 150-170ºC.
Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1100-850ºC.
