GCr15 is a high carbon chromium bearing steel, which is widely used in bearing manufacturing for its excellent wear resistance, high contact fatigue strength and good dimensional stability. This steel can obtain high and uniform hardness after quenching and low-temperature tempering, and is suitable for a variety of mechanical parts and precision gauges that are subject to high loads and require high wear resistance.

The chemical composition of GCr15 is as follows:
- Carbon (C): 0.95% ~ 1.05%
- Silicon (Si): 0.15% ~ 0.35%
- Manganese (Mn): 0.20% to 0.40%
- Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.025 per cent
- Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.025%
- Chromium (Cr): 1.30%~1.65
- Molybdenum (Mo): ≤ 0.10 per cent
- Nickel (Ni): ≤ 0.30%
- Copper (Cu): ≤0.25%
- Ni+Cu≤0.50%.
3. Physical properties
The physical properties of GCr15 include:
- Density: 7.8 g/cm³
- Coefficient of thermal expansion: 11×10-K (20°C to between)
- Modulus of elasticity: 208 GPa
- Poisson's ratio: 0.3.
4. Mechanical properties
The mechanical properties of GCr15 are as follows:
- Hardness in supplied state (HRC): 25.8
- Tensile strength (MPa): 861.3
- Yield strength (MPa): 518.42
- Elongation after break(%): 27.95
- Flexural strength (MPa): 1821.61.
5. Processing and welding performance
GCr15 cold working plasticity is medium, cutting performance is general, welding performance is poor, the formation of white point sensitivity can be large, tempering brittleness.
The heat treatment system of GCr15 is:
- Ordinary annealing: 790-810 degrees heating, furnace cooling to 650 degrees, air cooling - HB170-207
- Isothermal annealing: 790-810 degrees heating, 710-720 degrees isothermal, air cooling - HB207-229
- Normalising: 900-920 degrees heating, air cooling - HB270-390
- High temperature tempering: 650-700 degrees heating, air cooling - HB229-285
- Hardening: 860 degrees heating, oil quenching - HRC62-66
- Low temperature tempering: 150-170 degrees tempering, air cooling - HRC61-66.
7. Application areas
GCr15 is widely used:
- Manufacture of bearing rings and rolling bodies, such as bearing rings with wall thickness ≤12mm and outer diameter ≤250mm;
- Balls with a diameter of 25.4-50.8 mm; rollers with a diameter of <22 mm;
- Bear large loads, high wear resistance, high elastic limit and high contact fatigue strength of other mechanical parts and a variety of precision gauges and cold-drilling moulds.
