GCr15 bearing steel is a kind of high carbon chromium bearing steel with less alloy content, good performance and the most widely used. After quenching and tempering, it has high and uniform hardness, good wear resistance and high contact fatigue performance. The cold working plasticity of the steel is medium, the cutting performance is general, the welding performance is poor, the sensitivity to the formation of white spots is large, there is temper brittleness.

Heat treatment
Steel bar annealing, steel wire annealing or oil quenching at 830-840 degrees.
Process parameter
1. Ordinary annealing: 790-810 degrees heating, furnace cooling to 650 degrees, air cooling -- HB170-2 GCr15 bearing steel
2. Isothermal annealing: 790-810 degrees heating, 710-720 degrees isothermal, air cooling -- HB207-229
3. Normalizing: 900-920 degrees heating, air cooling -- HB270-390
4. High temperature tempering: 650-700 degrees heating, air cooling -- HB229-285
5. Quenching: 860 degrees heating, oil quenching - HRC62-66
6. Low temperature tempering: 150-170 degrees tempering, air cooling - HRC61-66
7. Carbonitriding: 820-830 degrees of co-infiltration for 1.5-3 hours, oil quenching, -60 degrees to -70 degrees of cryogenic treatment +150 degrees to +160 tempering, air cooling -- HRC≈67

The representative steel of high carbon chromium bearing steel has good comprehensive mechanical properties, high hardenability, high and uniform hardness after quenching and tempering, good wear resistance and high contact fatigue life, hot processing deformation performance and machinability are good, but poor weldability, more sensitive to white spot form, and tempering brittleness tendency.
It is used to manufacture various bearing rings with wall thickness of 12mm and outer diameter of 250mm, and also used as rolling bodies with wide size range, such as steel balls, tapered rollers, needle rollers, etc. It is also used to manufacture molds, precision measuring tools, and other machine parts that require high wear resistance, high elastic limits, and high contact fatigue strength.
This standard applies to hot rolled or forged round steel, wire rod, cold drawn (rolled) round steel (straight bar or disc) and steel pipe for making bearing sleeves and rolling elements of high carbon chromium bearing steel. Continuous casting steel is not recommended for ball steel.
