Vanadium is a high melting point refractory rare metal, its main products are: vanadium pentoxide, vanadium trioxide, vanadium iron, vanadium nitride and so on. Among them, vanadium pentoxide and vanadium trioxide are the most important vanadium oxides in the actual production. They are the main raw materials for producing subsequent vanadium products such as iron vanadium, vanadium nitride and vanadium carbide.
Vanadium products are divided into primary products, secondary products and tertiary products.Primary products include vanadium-containing minerals, concentrates, vanadium slag, spent petroleum refining catalysts, spent catalysts and other residues. Secondary products include vanadium pentoxide, which can also be used as an industrial product, as a catalyst for the production of sulphuric acid and as a catalyst for petroleum refining. Tertiary products include ferric vanadium, vanadium aluminum alloy, molybdenum-vanadium aluminum alloy, silo-mangano-vanadium ferroalloy and vanadium compounds, among which ferric vanadium is the most important vanadium material, accounting for 85% of vanadium consumption.
Vanadium pentoxide is widely used in metallurgy, chemical industry and other industries, mainly used in smelting iron vanadium. As an alloy additive, it accounts for more than 80% of the total consumption of vanadium pentahydrate. The annual consumption of vanadium pentahydrate is about 400 tons, and the annual demand of high purity vanadium pentahydrate is estimated to be about 100 tons.
Iron vanadium is an iron alloy composed of vanadium and iron. It is mainly used as an alloy additive in steelmaking. High vanadium iron vanadium is also used as an additive in non-ferrous alloys. The commonly used iron vanadium contains vanadium 40%, 60% and 80% of three kinds. Iron vanadium is an important alloy additive in iron and steel industry. At present, various vanadium-containing steels are applied more and more widely.
Alloys such as vanadium and titanium are used in the production of aviation alloy materials (bar and plate) series products, and the annual consumption of vanadium is about 50 tons. Vanadium-nitrogen alloy is a new alloy additive, which can be used in the production of microalloyed steel instead of iron vanadium. The addition of vanadium nitride to steel can improve the comprehensive mechanical properties such as strength, toughness, ductility and thermal fatigue resistance, and make the steel have good solderability.

Vanadium, tantalum, niobium, tungsten and molybdenum are called refractory metals. Ductile, hard, non-magnetic, at room temperature can be made into sheets, foils, silk and rods. Vanadium is not easy to oxidize in air, soluble in and aqua regia. Resistant to corrosion, and fairly stable in alkali, sulfuric and hydrochloric acid.
